About the Role

We are looking for an experienced and technically strong Design Head to lead and manage our Design & Engineering Team.

The Design Head will be responsible for managing the design team, planning design work, preparing and checking 2D drawings and 3D models, handling engineering designs, and working closely with Production, Fabrication, Automation, Purchase, and Project teams.

The candidate should have good practical knowledge of AutoCAD, SketchUp, 3ds Max, and SolidWorks. A good understanding of fabrication, manufacturing, materials, measurements, and production processes is also required.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, manage, guide, and monitor the Design Team.

• Assign projects and tasks to designers based on their skills and project needs.

• Plan design work and make sure projects are completed on time.

• Check and approve 2D drawings, 3D models, assemblies, and technical designs.

• Guide team members in solving design and technical problems.

• Work closely with Production, Fabrication, Automation, Purchase, Project, and other teams.

• Understand project requirements and turn ideas into practical designs.

• Prepare accurate 2D drawings and detailed 3D models.

• Prepare fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, measurements, and technical details.

• Make sure designs are accurate, practical, cost-effective, and suitable for production.

• Check measurements, dimensions, tolerances, clearances, and material details.

• Manage design changes and keep proper records of revisions.

• Find and correct design errors before production to reduce rework and material wastage.

• Provide technical support to Production and Fabrication teams during project work.

• Take part in project planning, design discussions, and client meetings when required.

• Train and guide junior designers in software, technical drawing, and design standards.

• Maintain proper design standards, templates, documents, and work processes.

• Manage multiple projects while maintaining quality and meeting deadlines.

Required Technical Skills

The candidate should have strong hands-on experience in:

• AutoCAD 2D & 3D

• SketchUp

• 3ds Max

• SolidWorks

• 2D drafting and detailing

• 3D modelling and assemblies

• Engineering and fabrication drawings

• Production-ready drawings

• Mechanical and structural design concepts

• Material selection and basic material knowledge

• Fabrication and manufacturing processes

• Measurements, dimensions, tolerances, and technical specifications

• Basic knowledge of sheet metal, MS/SS structures, acrylic, MDF, plywood, foam, plastics, and other model-making and fabrication materials

Leadership & Team Management

The candidate should be able to:

• Manage and lead a team of designers.

• Assign tasks and manage the team's workload.

• Guide and support team members in their work.

• Review, correct, and improve design work.

• Plan work and manage multiple projects.

• Prioritize urgent and important design requirements.

• Solve design and technical problems.

• Make practical decisions when required.

• Work effectively under tight deadlines.

• Communicate and coordinate well with different teams.

• Maintain team discipline, responsibility, and productivity.

Coordination & Project Execution

• Coordinate with the Production Head and Project Team to understand project requirements.

• Work with fabrication teams to make sure drawings are practical for production.

• Coordinate with the Automation Team for moving and interactive model requirements.

• Coordinate with Purchase regarding materials and technical specifications.

• Provide design clarification and technical support during production.

• Review designs before drawings are sent for production.

• Make sure all design work is completed according to project timelines.

The Design Head will be expected to focus on:

Candidate Profile

• Minimum 5+ years of relevant design experience.

• Experience as a Design Lead, Senior Designer, Design Head, or Design Manager will be preferred.

• Strong technical and practical design knowledge.

• Excellent knowledge of AutoCAD, SketchUp, 3ds Max, and SolidWorks.

• Good team management and leadership skills.

• Ability to take responsibility for projects from design to production.

• Good communication and coordination skills.

• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

• Willingness to work from Vasai, Maharashtra.
